Thermofluidics Research Laboratory

Overview

We are interested in fluid flow, phase change and interfacial phenomena at small length scales. We explore fundamental coupling between these physical processes and substrate properties, such as surface micro and nano structures. Our research is targeted towards enhancing the thermodynamic efficiency of a range of thermofluidic applications such as thermal management of electronics, power generation and indoor climate control.

Congratulations to Anurag Prasad, Anurag Tripathy, and Shashank Chopra, for successfully completing their MTech Project in our lab.

We are happy to share that a joint research proposal by Dr. Timothee Mouterde at The University of Tokyo and Dr. Chander Shekhar Sharma has recently been selected for funding by Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) under the LOTUS Fellowship Program 2025! ​As part of this program, our PhD scholar, Shubham Singh, has been awarded a fellowship to spend the next several months in Japan, conducting research on the fabrication of biomimetic textured surfaces for antifogging and dew-harvesting applications.

Congratulations to Raushan Kumar on successfully defending his Ph.D. thesis and becoming the second doctoral graduate from our lab. 

Raushan’s work explores the coalescence of microscale droplets on engineered surfaces with wettability contrast. Using both experimental and numerical investigations, this work provides new insights into the dynamics of small droplets during dropwise condensation. 

We are proud of Raushan’s achievements and wish him the very best for his future endeavors.

Congratulations to Gopal Chandra Pal for successfully defending his Ph.D. thesis, becoming the first doctoral graduate from our lab!

Gopal’s research explored the physics of small water droplets, with applications in efficient condensation and atmospheric water harvesting. His thesis combined experiments and numerical modeling to probe the effect of substrate compliance and wettability on droplet coalescence.

We are proud of Gopal’s achievement and grateful for the mark he has left on our lab. We wish him the very best as he heads for his next endeavor in his budding research career.
